# A custom market can settle on an index built to order.

Name the number on tickerz.com/x. Within 48 hours Tickerz answers in public: either a ticker with a fixed rule, a source whose terms allow settlement, a recount anyone can run and a signed report of its first number, or the plain reason it cannot be built. Today 5 Tickerz indexes can settle money: $LAYOFFS, $JOBS, $UNEMP, $CPI, $CORECPI.

## What makes a number settleable.

1. A rule fixed before the first number is published: source, query, how it is counted, the period, the unit and the rounding, with a version and a hash.
2. A source whose terms allow a market to settle on it. A source that bars it, or needs consent, is shown but never settled on.
3. A recount anyone can run from the source, and a signed report of every print.
4. A fallback for a late source, and a revision policy: the number as first published stands; a later revision is shown beside it.
